Entamoeba dispar is a non-pathogenic amoeba commonly found in the human intestine. Unlike its pathogenic relative, Entamoeba histolytica, which can cause severe illness, E. dispar typically does not cause symptoms or harm. Entamoeba dispar testing is used to differentiate it from E. histolytica and involves entamoeba dispar immunoassay reagents and enzyme immunoassay tests for accurate detection. While E. dispar generally does not require treatment, understanding its presence is important for accurate diagnosis. Entamoeba hartmanni, another similar amoeba, may also be tested and treated if needed, although it is typically asymptomatic as well.
