Campylobacteriosis is a foodborne gastrointestinal disease caused by bacteria called Campylobacter which is commonly found in food animals. Ingestion of undercooked meat is one of the main routes of transmission and bacteria is one of four key global causes of diarrheal diseases. Infections are generally mild, but they can be fatal among very young children and the elderly. Diagnosis is generally by culture or rapid antigen detection using stool or other body fluids.
